Wānaka Community Workshop News & Updates - June 2023
1 year ago - 7th Jun 2023

Hi everyone,

THE FABRIC-ATOR IS HERE!

Long ago, in the depths of time, Claire and Sue had a dream to munch up all the fabric in Wānaka and turn it into bolsters. With the arrival of the Fabric-Ator this dream is closer to reality. Better lock down your clothes.

If you haven't seen the machine, come check it out. Surprisingly it is not noisy and actually quite therapeutic in a "Get revenge on the world by munching it up" sort of way.

Now the machine is here Fabricate in Tuesday and Thursday mornings is set to be a hotbed of making cool stuff with Sue, Estelle and Claire. They already have bolsters and seat cushions on the go!

Website Made Good

Gwilym knocked out a new website design last week, adding more lovely photos, increasing the visibility of our Supporters and Sponsors and reorganising stuff to make it clearer what the hell is going on in that odd place next to Rhyme'n'Reason.

If you have ideas (which don't include redesigning the Internet), or do not see enough photos of yourself on the site, talk to Gwilym. The website is here.

A Cautionary Tale

I went to use the Makita Battery Track Saw the other week and luckily noticed before using it that the saw blade was cutting into the aluminum deck of the saw. Calamity! At first I thought it had been dropped and the blade bent, but soon figured out that someone must have been changing the blade and put the arbor washer in backwards. The blade was spinning off center and the blade spacing was offset.

There is something to learn here. Maybe we need to have people who know the tools do maintenance, or better documentation on how to do things. The bottom line is the tracksaw is a very, very useful .. but expensive bit of equipment that would be difficult to replace. Thoughts? Email it in - email@wcw.org.nz.
