Communications - The New Old School Way

We've needed a better way to communicate with you guys, the WCW members, since we started.

Facebook is so last century and wisely our older, and some enlightened younger members, refuse to use it so here we go. This is how we are sending out news and updates, via email. We'll look at doing a hand delivered letter press printed version later.

These updates will be heading your way every couple of weeks and aim to keep everyone up to date on what's happening, who's doing it and all with the goal of getting our space used by you all more and more wonderful things being made and fixed.

You have been sent this because we have this email address in our database as that of a 2023 member. If we have this wrong or you would rather not receive these emails please email Gwilym at email@wcw.org.nz

Supervised Sessions Update

We have now moved to where work in the workshop requires a Supervisor to be present. This is to comply with H&S requirements and also because it will make the workshop more accessible for new people.

A big thanks to Georgi and Sebastian for stepping up to supervise sessions, you can contact both of them to make sure they will be there, the planned times are:

  • 1-4pm Tuesdays - Van Lifer Session with Georgi
  • 4.30-7pm Tuesdays - General Session with Sebastian
  • 5-7pm Thursdays - General Members Session with Georgi

If you would like to supervise a session yourself talk to Ian or Gwilym.

Be a Film Star

On Wednesday 28th June the Adventure Film School would like to help launch your film career. They are going to make a short film about the mental health and community benefits of the Workshop. We'd like as many of the Wo(Mens)Shed members to be here as possible so pencil it in. Bring a packed lunch and makeup (if required).

Tools Update

People will have noticed the Wo(Mens)Shed Battery tools have been being locked away in the cupboard in the tool room. The thinking there was that they are expensive and core to our mission so reserved for community projects.

We can see that battery drills especially are a general requirement (many people are bringing their own) so we hear ya, we'll try and ensure there are some available. Watch this space.

FYI - We are on the lookout to be donated or buy corded Jigsaws, Angle Grinders, Disk Sanders etc. We'd prefer quality :-)

Goings on

Thanks for being part of the team!

Gwilym
